The new Zune browser is surprisingly good, but not as good as the iPod’s. It works well, but isn’t as fast as Safari, and has a clunkier interface. If you occasionally plan on using the web browser that’s not an issue, but if you’re planning to browse the web alot from your PMP then the iPod’s larger screen and better browser may be important.

As far as giving cell phones to the elderly, I always make it a point to take part – both my grandparents are in homes and I would hate to think of either of them not being able to get in touch if they need to. Whenever I’ve taken part, volunteers always tell me that the more simple the phone, the better since many elderly don’t have much cell phone experience. If you do take part and you don’t have anything laying around, there are great and inexpensive phones you can buy that work well. I always recommend the Samsung T105 from SVC/Tracfone since it’s $10 and actually made for seniors – it also was and is my grandpa’s cell phone and since it was easy for him to master, its easy for anyone.
